Lewd and lascivious conduct is an offense that, while extremely serious, involves conduct that is different than sexual battery. This offense covers a wide range of behavior, and isn't limited to physical contact. This includes consentual sexual contact between two people where one is under the age of 16. (Sometimes both are, but then that depends on who complains first). This is widely known as statutory rape.
Note: with all sex crimes, there are incredibly severe sanctions that apply if a person is convicted of any of the offenses deemed sex crimes. The reporting requirements alone are worth paying significant attorney's fees to try to avoid. Never, ever admit to, and certainly do not plead to a sex crime without consulting with an attorney who has solid experience in sex crimes. Do not accept oh yes, I can handle that... Make sure that the attorney has handled more than 20 of these cases before trusting your life and your future to them.
